CREART CONFERENCE "THE BODY BEFORE AND THROUGH THE CAMERA: CONTEMPORARY PERSPECTIVES ON DANCE AND VIDEO DANCE", 23/09/2026 SKOPJE
The International Conference “Performing Arts, with a Specific Focus on Dance and Video Dance”, under the theme “The Body Before and Through the Camera: Contemporary Perspectives in Dance and Video Dance”, will bring together contemporary perspectives and experiences on the development of dance and its evolving relationship with film, camera, and digital technologies.
The conference will bring together renowned experts, university professors, artists, choreographers, performers, researchers, and professionals from the field of performing arts, including distinguished participants from two state universities in North Macedonia, as well as international experts from the region and beyond.
The conference programme will explore a range of important topics, including:
- Contemporary dance practices and new artistic languages – the development of dance as a contemporary form of expression and the emergence of new approaches within the performing arts.
- The body before and through the camera – exploring the relationship between the body, movement, space, and the camera, and examining how dance transforms when it moves from the stage to the screen.
- Video dance between film and choreography – exploring the intersection of cinematic and choreographic languages and the development of video dance as a distinctive artistic practice.
- Dance, freedom of expression and the competitive context – addressing questions surrounding the evaluation of dance performance, criteria, scoring, ranking, and artistic expression within competitive dance.
- Digital technologies and new forms of performance – examining the impact of technology on contemporary dance and the emergence of hybrid, interactive, and immersive forms of artistic expression.
- Documenting, archiving and preserving dance – exploring the importance of documentation and archiving in preserving dance performances, artistic practices, and cultural heritage.
- The future of video dance and contemporary European practices – considering emerging directions in video dance and its place within the contemporary artistic scene in North Macedonia and Europe.
- Special attention will also be given to an open discussion on “Where the Stage Meets the Screen”, followed by the closing panel discussion “Dance in the Age of Digital Transformation.”
The conference aims to encourage dialogue, knowledge and experience exchange, and new perspectives on the future of dance, video dance, and contemporary performing arts.
