We are pleased to announce the two artists selected by Artkomas and Kaunas Artists House for the Land art pleinair in Kaunas (Lithuania) between 10-14 May:

ESTELA RIBEIRO DE MELO

Estela Maria de Abreu Ribeiro de Melo is a Portuguese textile artist specializing in wool and contemporary felt. Since beginning her formal training in 2001 at Cearte, she has dedicated over two decades to material research, craft preservation, and contemporary textile experimentation. Since 2004, she has participated in historical reenactment projects across Portugal, Spain, and Italy, demonstrating the traditional wool cycle. Parallel to her artistic practice, she directs and coordinates advanced textile workshops nationwide and internationally.
Her work bridges craft, fashion, design, and experimental textile practices. She has collaborated with fashion designers, theatre and cinema productions, and participated as a speaker in conferences focused on design and cultural heritage.
International highlights include residencies in Seville (2019), representation of Portugal at the International Festival of Handicrafters in Kokand (2019, 2023), participation in Dutch Design Week (2022), exhibition at CentroCentro – Palacio de Cibeles (Madrid, 2023), STEAM 23/24 Residency Award, and exhibition at Textilfest Biennial (Barcelona, 2025). She regularly hosts national and international textile interns and teaches felt-making
workshops across Europe.

 

VITALII SHUPLIAK

(*1993, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian artist, based in Berlin. He mainly works with video installation, painting and performance. Vitalii Shupliak explores the potential of free expression for the creation of new values, employing methods that permeate reality and virtuality, with a focus on migration, identity, and border issues.
