LUBLIN PRESENTS FESTIVAL ZŁOTA STREET ON 19TH SEPTEMBER
Festival on Złota Street – art, poetry, and history in the heart of the Lublin’s Old Town
On Saturday (September 19), Złota Street in Lublin’s Old Town will transform for a day into an open art space and a meeting place for artists, musicians, and actors. The City of Lublin invites residents to the "Festiwal na Złotej" (Festival on Złota Street), an event that blends the street's history and heritage with contemporary art and creative activities. The program features workshops, guided walks, exhibitions, art installations, and performance events, as well as an evening concert and an open-air cinema screening.
The festival program draws upon the street’s multifaceted history and artistic heritage. A special place is reserved for the work of Józef Czechowicz and Franciszka Arnsztajnowa; their poetry will serve as the starting point for both workshops and performance art. During the "Fashion for Poetry" workshops, run by Magdalena Krasuska, participants will give the poems a new visual form by transferring selected excerpts from the works of Czechowicz and Arnsztajnowa onto clothing. Meanwhile, a performance reading of poems from the duo’s joint collection, "Stare kamienie" (Old Stones), will transform the Old Town setting into a unique stage. Actors from the Juliusz Osterwa Theatre - Wojciech Rusin and Jowita Stępniak - will read the texts from the windows of the townhouses at 2 and 3 Złota Street. The event will also feature Olga Stokłosa, Franciszka Arnsztajnowa’s great-granddaughter, who will present the poet’s work and share family memories regarding her life and the cultural milieu of Złota Street.
The street’s name will also serve as inspiration for creative endeavors. Passers-by will encounter interactive installations created by artists-in-residence from Clermont-Ferrand, France - Ismael Peltreau and Théo Levillain - selected through an open call. The works will reference the history of Złota Street and its architecture, as well as the memory of former goldsmithing workshops and the street’s everyday life.
In the evening, Złota Street will transform into a stage for music and film. At 7:00 PM, the concert "Na ulicy Złotej pod trójką" will take place, featuring Łukasz Jemioła performing a repertoire that blends retro songs with Polish, Lublin-inspired, and original sung poetry. After dark, the façade of the tenement house at 4 Złota Street will serve as a screen for a multimedia light-and-poetry installation created by Paweł Łuciuk. To conclude the day, we invite you to an open-air retro cinema screening in the patio of the Józef Czechowicz
Museum. In an intimate setting, audiences will be able to watch classic films from the 1920s and 1930s.
